This website should be relatively intuitive to work with. There are three interface conventions that you should be aware of:

Any time you click on a box title it, the associated box should collapse. To restore it, just click it again.

Every link should open in a new tab or window.

The site is primarily built around RSS feeds, which need to be refreshed each time a page is loaded. The Favorites options in particular can take quite a while to load up

If things are not working, I hope that you will email me (see Personal area for contact information).

Introduction to My Research: Preamble Wed, 21 Mar 2012 13:40:32 +0000
As an academic researcher, my tendency is to share my ideas with other academic researchers. Most of the time, they do not know what I am talking about. That is okay, however, since I don’t know what they are talking about either. … Continue reading

Spam and this blog Thu, 16 Feb 2012 13:30:37 +0000
This being the first time that I have administered a blog, I find myself not knowing precisely how to distinguish between genuine comments and auto-generated spam. I suspect that all the comments I have received so far are in the … Continue reading

Completed Release 1 of the Grandon.com Website Sun, 12 Feb 2012 19:14:51 +0000
Much of this weekend was spend dealing with items on the “To Do” list that I compiled a few days ago. I now feel comfortable declaring “Release 1″ complete. While there will doubtless be changes that I will make (such … Continue reading

I am continuing to revise aspects of the website that are not working. Hopefully I will be done in a few days.

Grandon.com is Live! Tue, 07 Feb 2012 17:12:39 +0000
After about a week of learning how to do a bunch of stuff, my new site is launching!

Grandon Gill Greetings!
This web site is designed to provide a summary of my activities. It is mainly auto-generated, to reduce the likelihood that it won't be updated.
I do this by creating a website that is mainly composed of embedded feeds and other information, such as my calendar, presented in frames. With any luck, if I keep these alternative sites updated, my current site will remain reasonably current. Of course if I do not, or if links change, this could get ugly fast. Feel free to contact me if it does.

My Research: Self-Disclosure, Utility and Information Seeking Tue, 08 May 2012 14:00:37 +0000
An article in today’s Wall Street Journal by Robert Lee Hotz, “Science Reveals Why We Brag So Much”, was poorly titled but, nevertheless, directed me towards an interesting finding that relates to my own research into complexity. The actual research paper cited … Continue reading

My Research: The Siren Call of Sustainability Fri, 04 May 2012 19:20:31 +0000
In today’s Internet-enabled world, it is hard to keep up with the politically-correct meaning of terms. Too often, they change from day-to-day on sites such as Wikipedia. So, when I want to find out how a term is defined in … Continue reading

Clare’s father, Oliver Barres, passed away somewhat unexpectedly at 8 AM this morning in Bethlehem, PA. He was 90 years old and in failing health. Clare is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.

My Research: Ruggedness, Informing, Education and the Case Method Sat, 21 Apr 2012 16:28:17 +0000
In the first entry on my research, I discussed the different types of task complexity. Of these, the dimension I refer to as objective complexity (which leads to ruggedness) is the one least studied in education. I believe, however, that it can have … Continue reading

Ethics, Case Competitions and What We Should Be Learning Thu, 12 Apr 2012 16:45:33 +0000
Prelude: In telling the story that follows, I find myself relying on hearsay more than I would like, and am also revealing information that might have been passed on in confidence. On the other hand, by remaining silent I believe … Continue reading

My Research: Utility and Ruggedness Sat, 07 Apr 2012 20:25:24 +0000
This is another entry in the series of postings dealing with my research. For an overview of task complexity, see the posting “What is Task Complexity“. Of the three dimensions that jointly make up task complexity, some of the most … Continue reading

Status of NSF-Sponsored Case Study Project Fri, 06 Apr 2012 14:39:41 +0000
I’m in the process of submitting my annual report for NSF Award Number 1043919 so I thought I would add a brief summary of where the project stands to date. The basic idea of the project is to transform the capstone course … Continue reading

Interdisciplinary Research and the Case Method at IREPS 2012 Wed, 28 Mar 2012 16:14:46 +0000
Once again, I find myself considering my opening remarks for an IREPS 2012 panel discussion. Today’s panel is on how the case method facilitates interdisciplinary research. How Narrowly Focused Disciplines Arise Understanding how the case method might impact interdisciplinarity likely … Continue reading

Case Method and Practice at IREPS 2012 Tue, 27 Mar 2012 16:13:40 +0000
At 1:30 today, I have to make some remarks about how the case method can be used to link research and practice. I thought I would summarize what I plan to say here, to help get my head straight. Motivation: … Continue reading

IREPS Conference Tue, 27 Mar 2012 11:21:21 +0000
I’m currently attending the IREPS 2012 conference in Orlando, where I ran a case method mini-workshop yesterday. I was extremely gratified by the response–47 people showed up after only 30 people signed up. I was also mortified by the fact that the … Continue reading
